MaxDiff experiments in inclusive research designs

Are there any publications around best practices and/or pros&cons of using MaxDiff in the context of conducting research among people with literacy deficiencies or cognitive impairments?

We are generally thinking that MD should be easier to answer than rating scales, but wondering if we should limit items per task to 3 or limit to asking best only as opposed to best/worst responses.

Maybe this is more of a question for the UX quants researchers... I'm grateful for any pointers! 🙂
