In my survey I have an open-end variable (Q8) with the following settings:
In my export settings, I have "export columns with fixed width" turned off.
When exporting this Q8 something weird happens. The excel export just shows one column for Q8 with the open answers included in that column.
The SPSS export however splits the Q8 into 4 variables and limits the width of the 4 variables to 255 or 252.
Here is how it looks in SPSS:
As you can see, there is not only a Q8 but a Q80, Q81, Q82, Q83. The all have the same variable label (the one of the original Q8).
As you can see below Q8 in the picture, Q9 is also an open-end question (with the exact same settings) but that one has a width of 1972 and is not split into further variables.
Q82 and Q83 are empty, Q81 and Q80 include continuations of Q8. So Q8 was at some point limited to 255 width and responses with more text are being continued in the next variables.
Is there a quick fix for this? Otherwise we would have to import the variable again from the excel data.
